I think this is most important topic to be discussed. All children can think creatively but how many of them do so?
It is possible to bring forth creativity from any student. But it’s all in the hands of teachers and parents. When a student thinks innovative solutions to a problem he/she can increase the confidence level; in turn it is possible to win the heavy competition.
Taking daily classes, routine home works and assignments will defiantly bore teachers as well as students. Thus students will fail to listen and understand subjects in classes. It is responsibility of teachers to take effective steps to cultivate creativity among students. Here are few tips for teachers:
• Provide sufficient time for creativity: If you have to take one hour of class, split the timings for taking class as well as to perform creative works. You can pick any one student and ask him to read a story from book and make him to explain the story in his own style. Provide some time for him to think and narrate the story. Thus students can come out of fear of reading and also try to speak in their own way.
• Ask for role models: One of my friends is working as private tutor and she use to introduce her to students and ask for student’s intro in first tutoring class. She also asks for student’s role model. If the student fails to say, the task will be given as home work. The student should think a role model with an answer for choosing the personality. Thus students will come to know many famous personalities and their success stories.
• Make them to analyze ideas for a problem: I agree that teachers should be behind students and help them in studying. But make them to think effective ideas to solve a problem. Identify their mistakes and make them to rectify it. You can just help to find out the answer but don’t provide it.
• Have time for art classes: Through art works, paper works, etc students get brighter ideas. You can divide students into separate teams and make to do any creative works like drawing, painting etc. you can award the best team to motivate students. For higher secondary students give assignments topics as research works. Don’t give any syllabus topics as assignments; apart from academics there are many interesting things like sports, latest news, about animals, vocabulary building, learning new words from different languages etc. these types of works can be used as assignment topics.
• Self estimation is good way: Make student to estimate themselves for assignment works they did. They can rate for 5 where 5 is excellent, 4 is good etc. Give small gifts like pen for all students in excellent category. And also motivate students in least category to perform well the other time.
Thus being a teacher or
private tutors , you can cultivate creativity among students.
